Proud Parent & Conduct Award

Oldest Son received the Conduct Award yesterday. There were 3 awards given: Participation, Effort and Conduct.

Oldest Son was very excited. It was an unexpected and wonderful bit of positive reinforcement for him.

There are so many learnings when one enters the world of parenting. One emotion that I did not fully understand until I had kids was Pride. The Pride is an overwhelming feeling that can ultimately be positive or negative depending on how the parent handles it. I have found it helpful to have a few select, close friends that you can unabashedly "brag" to and they are genuinely happy to share the moment.

I am feeling lots of Pride right now. It feels nice. I am so happy for Oldest Son.

Hi, I ran across your blog (looking up High School Musical: El Desafio). We, too, are living in Mexico for a year -- kids 9 and nearly 7, going to school -- husband working here (Vonage, Telmex, etc, like you!) and flying back and forth to US while I (the mom) stay here. But instead of being by a beatiful beach we are in DF. I really enjoyed reading your blog -- so many very similar issues and experiences (though we flew in and left the cars at home with friends). My email is erika.pretell at gmail.com. Let me know if you'd like to communicate via email. - Erika

Congrats to Oldest Son! It sounds like things have improved for him.

Our Preschool gives out awards each Monday morning for good behavior the week prior. It is quite an ordeal and the kids run a cicle around our Principal when they walk up to her to receive the award! A little motivation like that goes a long way...
